The Inconvenient Truth of “Godi Media”

Our media is pretty shitty right now. Each one has found a godi (lap) to sit into.

— Is it something new? NO!

— Has our TV media every been great? NO!

— Has it always been in some leader’s godi? YES!

TV journalism has always survived on the hardwork of print. Print media has always done bold and real journalism and TV media has always lacked a spine. For example, who broke all the BIGGEST scams? 2G & Nira Radia Tapes, Commonwealth, Adarsh society, Chopper scam, and coal scam. All these scams were revealed by print media. Be it Outlook, Pioneer, TOI etc.

On occasions, TV media didn’t even run the stories during initial days of the scam being published. Today’s key people in digital media portals are those who, at those times were either running food shows, talking about coup, were part of leaked tapes or asking to Sonia Gandhi about her mother in law.

If you think days were better in 80s and 90s, then you are horribly wrong. Towards latter half of 80s, Doordarshan was called Rajeev Darshan and I&B minister was HKL Bhagat, a key accused of ’84 pogrom.

When private media houses started to flourish, they were founded by those who had good raport with govt and were part of DD. So basically, they got licenses from their earlier employers. and thus, they scratched their backs by not showing any thing against them.

Indian TV media has always been a shit show run by lapdogs. It still is the same. Everyone has chosen a lap where they find their comfort.

These are just my opinions. What do you think?
